It has been 10 years since I graduated with first class honours and went on to win the New Designers award for jewellery. How has that time gone so fast? I look back, and in some ways its feels a lifetime ago and others like yesterday.

I am writing this blog embracing the new social media!  Even in 10 years it has changed so much.

The jewellery making is the same as it has been for hundreds of years but the way to sell is so different! I am getting to grips with facebook, twitter instagram and pintrest to name a few!. But it is certainly different from doing my first exhibition with the Designer Jewellers Group at the Barbican and selling my first piece. That was a wonderful moment.

So much has happened in 10 years. From designing and making many new ranges to changing workshops 5 times! (I’m staying put now!!)

I have exhibited at major exhibitions from London Fashion Week to New York International Gift Fair, I have managed to sail around the world selling my work on cruise ships as well, so things have truly been International. I have also made work for films and designed for high street brands from Primark to Next. I produced exclusive ranges for Jersey Pearl, (www.jerseypearl.com/pearl-jewellery-collections/kimberley-selwood.html) Chamilia and Not on the high street. (www.notonthehighstreet.com/kimberleyselwood)

Also I had more than my 15 minutes of fame, when I appeared on QVC monthly selling my collection of jewellery designed exclusively for them!

I love what I do!

I have been lucky enough to have my biggest dream come true and that was to become a Mummy. This has changed things dramatically and all for the better.

So life and work is very different now, and I have the flexibility to do what I love when I want. I design and make, and balance being a Mummy, hopefully most of the time with success. Throughout this crazy 10 years of ups and downs, my husband has been by my side. I still remember ringing him in tears when my final show of my degree, fell and broke my cuff into pieces, I sobbed not knowing how I would ever recover and go on. Then ringing him the next day in tears after winning the award despite my cuff being in 30 pieces! Poor guy, I don’t think he knew what to do with me! He still doesn’t! From graduation until now he has supported me all the way, allowing me to have the creative wobbles to now being a flexible working Mummy. I am so lucky.

I have now redesigned the website and branding with a lot of help from www.sab-graphics.com. So it is feminine and beautiful but hopefully welcoming too! The new ranges are sentimental as always, and are developed so they can be personalized. There are lots of new ideas in the pipeline so do keep coming back! Thank you for all your support over these 10 years and hers to the next!

So here’s a little celebration for my 10 years in business there is 10% off across all Jewellery for September!
